New State-by-State Social Media Report Facilitates More Effective Communications, Public Affairs Campaigns
DCI Group Launches Website that Features State-by-State Comparison of Twitter and Facebook Participation Rates
WASHINGTON– DCI Group, a Washington, D.C.-based public affairs firm, today launched an interactive map of the United States that features a comprehensive overview of state government social media participation. This resource will help public affairs professionals quickly reach governors and state legislators with key messages via Twitter and Facebook. Research indicates that 48 governors have a personalized Twitter presence, at least 46 states have legislators actively using Twitter, and more than one-third of all state legislators have a Facebook profile.
The Digital America map also contains a state-by-state ranking of each state’s Twitter and Facebook participation rates. The findings, based on official 2010 census numbers and independent research, will help public affairs and communications professionals better understand geographical differences in the use of social-networking technology in order to facilitate more targeted and cost-efficient campaigns.
“Social media represents a crucial and growing component in communications and public affairs campaigns,” said Chip Griffin, DCI Group’s Chief Digital Officer. “Our findings will help public affairs professionals effectively disseminate information to target audiences in the quickest, most effective way possible.”
The state-specific research ranks each state based on social media participation relative to population on both Facebook and Twitter platforms. This information is also featured in an interactive map that displays the raw data and rankings for each state.
“This easy to use site will be very helpful in communicating with key audiences,” said Griffin. “A campaign in the state of Washington might take advantage of its number one ranking in Facebook participation to focus on effective digital tactics. On the other hand, New Mexico’s lowest-in-the-nation Facebook participation rate might encourage greater use of traditional communication approaches.”
In addition to an interactive map, the DCI Digital website also features a blog about digital-related news and updates. To visit the DCI Digital site, click here.
