This event sounds like a wonderful cause where many children benefit, they must have been so happy when they heard how much their art was enjoyed. Great Blog!

"At the Hope is an Art Form fundraiser the real winners were the children"

Very well stated. I wish I could have seen this exhibit in person. It sounds amazing, and awe inspiring!

It's interesting to me how people can take such different things away from the same article. I read his piece too, and felt that what he was saying was that individuals compelled to social action that involved substantial risk--like sitting at a segregated lunch counter, where the participants quite frankly risked their lives--requires strong ties.

When we discussed this on the Roundtable, I suggested that social media can accelerate the participation rate of a social movement by getting the word out quickly, but that Gladwell's underlying premise is correct: when life and/or property are at stake, it is the depth of support of those closest to you that matters. If someone in your broader network on Twitter asks you to donate a dollar for some cause, there's little reason not to. But would you contribute $100, or $500, to someone you *only* know through that weak tie?

Lots of food for thought from Gladwell. The fact that his article is still being discussed is evidence of that!
