Jennifer Scoggins Hanks is a Director at DCI Group where she provides strategic counsel and serves the public affairs needs of DCI Group’s clients, drawing on more than a decade of bi-coastal political, legislative, and media experience.
Before joining DCI Group in 2014, Jennifer was a member of CNN’s Public Relations team in the Washington, DC bureau for four years. She managed publicity efforts for CNN’s political coverage and DC-based programming and talent, including The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Wolf, and Inside Politics with John King. She joined CNN after working on Capitol Hill as the press secretary for U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH).
In 2006, she moved from California to Washington, DC to work in the Bush Administration at the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Energy for three years. At Commerce, she held the International Trade Administration and Bureau of Industry and Security portfolios for the public affairs team, covering trade and dual use export issues. She also traveled as press advance for two of the Secretary’s Business Missions to Vietnam and China. At Energy, she served as the deputy press secretary and was responsible for the department’s energy efficiency and renewable energy portfolio.
On the West Coast, she was a member of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s press office for three years, and volunteered on his historic recall and initiative campaigns. Her first post-college job was working for California Assemblywoman Sharon Runner as her scheduler and press secretary. Her initial love of politics grew from an internship in the Assembly Chief Clerk’s office, working all-night marathons at the end of the 2002 legislative session.
Jennifer is a California native and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of California at Davis in Communications with a minor in Community and Regional Development. She and her husband, Christopher, currently reside in Alexandria, Virginia.
